IPSE (Independent Photographers in the South East) this year celebrates 21 years since the group first got together to share their work and organise workshops and exhibitions at various venues in the South East. LIP Member Jill Staples, inspired by workshops in Derbyshire with Paul Hill at The Photographers’ Place, founded IPSE and has kept it running with energy, passion and great organisational skills. Professional photographers such as Fay Godwin, Thomas Joshua Cooper and most recently Liz Hingley, winner of the Prix Virginia, have been happy to lead workshops and mix with the dedicated amateurs in the group in the pursuit of sharing their work and learning together.

This is IPSE’s third visit to the Hawth and the varied show includes work from 21 members of the group, including LIP members Jill Staples, Virginia Khuri, David Malarkey, Lesley Parkinson, Lizzie Brown, Caroline Fraser and Sue Fallon. The show has been curated by Mick Williamson, Head of Photography at London Metropolitan University, Sir Hugh Cass Dept. of Art & Design, and Heather McDonough, a colleague there.

The Hawth venue hosts a cultural mix of theatre, cinema, dance, music of all kinds, and comedy. The Private View on Sunday March 10th could be followed by a performance of The Moscow State Circus starting at 5pm. There is an excellent cafe on site serving coffee and tea from 11, and lunch from 12–2pm. For maps and directions by car, train or bus see the Hawth’s website.
